Orihuela Costa
Our office sits between the gates of Las Ramblas and Campoamor golf, so these are the courses we know best.
Villamartín Golf
Villamartín is the original course in the area. In 1994 it hosted the Mediterranean Open, which José María Olazábal won after a play-off. It offers golf for every standard, and every club in the bag will be needed at some stage. It measures about 6,000 metres from the white tees (par 72) and remains a fair challenge for ladies at roughly a thousand metres less from the reds. Our personal favourite is the 17th, a long par 3 with a superb two-tier green.
Las Ramblas Golf
That a course could be built here at all, among so many ravines and slopes, is quite an achievement. Las Ramblas is far tougher than Villamartín: good club selection and a straight aim are essential, and we’d suggest playing it the first time with someone who knows the course. The urbanisation around it is one of the greenest in the area, with quality homes and quiet communal pools.
Campoamor Golf
Something different: if you hit it long but not always straight, Campoamor is a great place to enjoy a round. It is more of a parkland course, but don’t expect an easy ride: the greens are hard to hold and fast, so three-putting is an easy habit to pick up. The resort around the course also offers a hotel and sports facilities.
Las Colinas Golf & Country Club
Just behind Campoamor, on the road to San Miguel de Salinas, Las Colinas is widely considered one of the best courses in Spain. Surrounded by hills and open countryside, it feels secluded from the first tee, and its sand and water hazards will make you think twice about being brave.
Nearby on the southern Costa Blanca
All within about 20 minutes’ drive of Orihuela Costa.
La Marquesa Golf
In Ciudad Quesada (Rojales), La Marquesa is one of the longest-established courses in the area: 18 holes, par 72, designed by Justo Quesada and opened in 1989. It is a parkland course that suits golfers of every level. The best-known hole is the 16th, played over a circular water hazard to the green.
Vistabella Golf
Vistabella, near Orihuela, was designed by former Ryder Cup player Manuel Piñero and built on what used to be a citrus grove. It opened in 2009 and was extended to 18 holes (par 72) in 2018, with views of the countryside and the Orihuela mountains and a large lake in play.
La Finca Golf
La Finca in Algorfa, opened in 2002, is an 18-hole, par-72 course by the Spanish designer Pepe Gancedo. Wide fairways and large, fast greens follow the natural contours of the land; the square green on the 7th and the deep, round green on the 14th are its trademarks.
Lo Romero Golf
Lo Romero in Pilar de la Horadada, between the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor, opened in 2008: 18 holes, par 72, with water in play on thirteen holes. It finishes with its signature hole, a par 4 played from an elevated tee to an island green.
Los Alcázares and the Mar Menor
La Serena Golf
La Serena Golf in Los Alcázares is a flat, friendly 18-hole course known for its lakes, a few minutes from the shore of the Mar Menor. Two of our current new-build promotions, AREAbeach VII and LA Sunset, are right beside it; LA Sunset is front line to the course.
Roda Golf
Roda Golf, between Los Alcázares and San Javier and about 2 km from the Mar Menor, is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Dave Thomas and opened in 2006. The flat coastal layout has several lakes, and the resort has a golf academy and a practice range.
Mar Menor Golf
Near Torre-Pacheco, about 5 km from the Mar Menor, this 18-hole, par-72 course combines two designs: the front nine by Dave Thomas and the back nine by Nicklaus Design.
La Torre Golf
Also in Torre-Pacheco, La Torre is a Nicklaus Design course of 18 holes and par 68. At around 5,400 metres it is shorter than most, with plenty of bunkers, which makes it popular for a relaxed round.
La Manga Club
Near Cartagena, La Manga Club has three 18-hole courses spread over almost 6 km² of countryside. The South Course, the championship course, was designed by Robert Dean Putman and later remodelled by Arnold Palmer, with water on 15 of its 18 holes. The North Course, also by Putman, is a little shorter, with tighter fairways and natural gullies. The West Course, by Dave Thomas, winds through woodland and hills.
With so many courses within a short drive, Los Alcázares is a good base for golfers who like variety.
Inland Murcia
El Valle Golf
El Valle, south of Murcia city, is a Nicklaus Design course of 18 holes and par 71, measuring 6,355 metres from the back tees. Its desert-style planting gives it a look more like Arizona than Spain.
Hacienda del Álamo Golf
Hacienda del Álamo in Fuente Álamo is one of the longest courses in the region: 18 holes, par 72, about 6,700 metres from the back tees.
Golf properties
There are homes for every budget on and around the golf courses: apartments, penthouses and townhouses, up to front-line villas with private pools. Have a look at our new builds and resales, or tell us what you’re looking for.
