Ciudad Quesada

A green, quieter side of the coast

Ciudad Quesada is a large residential urbanisation in the municipality of Rojales, a few kilometres inland from Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura. It has grown since the 1970s around La Marquesa golf course and is one of the oldest and best-known urbanisations on the southern Costa Blanca, which is why the whole area is usually called after it. Next to it are the old town of Rojales, on the river Segura, and the village of Benijófar.

The area sits on the low hills at the edge of the Vega Baja, the fertile plain of the Segura, with views over orchards and the salt lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja. It is quieter and greener than the seafront, but still close to it.

Everyday life

Ciudad Quesada has its own shopping streets, restaurants, bars, supermarkets and a water park, and a large international community lives here all year. Rojales has the town hall, schools and health centre, a historic stone bridge over the Segura and the Cuevas del Rodeo, cave houses now used as artists’ workshops. Benijófar is a small, friendly village with a church square, shops and restaurants, and new developments at its edge.

The beaches of Guardamar del Segura are about 15 minutes away by car, and Torrevieja about the same. Alicante-Elche airport is about 40 minutes to the north and Región de Murcia airport about an hour to the south-west.

Golf

La Marquesa Golf is in Ciudad Quesada itself: 18 holes, par 72, opened in 1989. The courses of Orihuela Costa, such as Villamartín, Las Ramblas and Campoamor, are about 20 to 25 minutes south. See our golf guide.
