Los Alcázares and the Mar Menor

A relaxed seaside town on the Mar Menor, with calm, warm water, golf on the doorstep and Murcia airport close by.

The Mar Menor

Los Alcázares lies on the shore of the Mar Menor, a large saltwater lagoon separated from the Mediterranean by a narrow strip of land. Its water is shallow, calm and warmer than the open sea, which makes it ideal for families, swimming and water sports such as sailing and paddle-boarding. The town has around 7 km of coastline, with beaches and a long seafront promenade.

Everyday life

Los Alcázares is a real Spanish town that lives all year round, not only in summer. Shops, restaurants, schools and health services are all close by, and the region enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year with an average temperature of about 19 °C.

Murcia International Airport (Corvera) is around half an hour’s drive away and Alicante airport about an hour, and the motorway puts Murcia and Cartagena within easy reach.

Golf

The La Serena Golf course is on the edge of town, a few minutes from the lagoon, and several more courses around the Mar Menor are a short drive away. See our golf guide.
