The city of Murcia

Murcia is the capital of the Region of Murcia and one of Spain’s larger cities, with more than 460,000 people in its municipality. The old centre is built around the cathedral of Santa María, whose Baroque façade faces the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, and the river Segura runs through the city between the historic quarter and the market gardens of the huerta. As a university city and the seat of the regional government, it has shops, restaurants, hospitals and services all year round.

The municipality reaches far beyond the city itself. South of the centre, past the Carrascoy hills, lie rural districts such as Baños y Mendigo and Corvera, with open countryside, golf and the region’s airport.

El Valle Golf Resort

El Valle Golf Resort, in Baños y Mendigo, is built around an 18-hole, par-71 championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Its desert-style landscaping, raised greens and more than 115 bunkers wind between limestone outcrops, and the area gets over 3,000 hours of sunshine a year.

The resort’s clubhouse has a restaurant, a supermarket, a golf shop and a gym, and there are tennis, padel and petanque courts, play areas and 24-hour security at the entrance. More courses are a short drive away; see our golf guide.

Getting there

Region of Murcia International Airport, at Corvera, is about 14 km from El Valle, and Alicante-Elche airport about 97 km. The city centre is around 25 km away by road, and Murcia’s railway station has high-speed trains to Madrid. The beaches of the Mar Menor, around Los Alcázares, are about 20 minutes by car.
